For Immediate Release
CHICAGO IMPROV FESTIVAL IS NOW BIENNIAL
Chicago, August 25, 2017 – 21 years ago, when Frances Callier and Jonathan Pitts co-founded the Chicago Improv Festival, there were maybe 3 or 4 other ongoing improv festivals they were aware of in North America. Now, there’s currently approximately 140 improv festivals worldwide.
In light of this current festival environment, Chicago Improv Productions’ Board of Directors has been exploring different ways to best highlight and position Chicago Improv Festival as a festival locally, nationally and internationally.
On August 16, Chicago Improv Productions’ Board unanimously approved to make the Chicago Improv Festival a biennial festival effective immediately. The dates for the next Chicago Improv Festival are April 1-7, 2019 and a venue for the 2019 festival has already been reserved.
Speaking for the Board, Chicago Improv Productions’ Executive Director Jonathan Pitts states, “We believe having the festival less frequently will make each festival more exciting and more of a special event for improvisers and audiences.”
