CIF Ensemble of the Year Award: 3Peat
CIF Builder’s Award: Becky Caldwell; Don Hall; Zach Ward
CIF Lifetime Achievement Award: Judy Fabjance
The 2017 Chicago Improv Festival is dedicated to the memory of improviser-actor-writer-teacher Judy Fabjance, who spent all of her life performing and teaching improvisation from her teen-age years until she passed away in 2016. Judy connected with, entertained, and inspired many, many people of all ages and of all walks of life in her artistic career.
To honor Judy’s lifework, CIF is having a Judy Fabjance Celebration Night on Saturday, April 1 at 7pm in Stage 773’s Pro Theatre. CIF’s co-founder and executive producer Jonathan Pitts will present a posthumous “CIF Lifetime Achievement Award” for Judy to Judy’s widow Kelly Beeman.
This will be followed by a hilarious and touching fully improvised show in which alumni and cast members of GayCo (Judy was an alumni), as well as cast members from Annoyance Theater’s LBGTQ improv ensemble Baby Wine, and other improvisers from Chicago’s LBGTQ community all improvise together in a storytelling format called a LesBiGay Armando. The guest storyteller is David Fink, the founder and host of the monthly LBGTQ storytelling night OUTspoken!
After paying the rent on the theatre venue for this show, 50% of all ticket proceeds will be donated in Judy’s name to her favorite charity, Metavivor (Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Support and Research): http://www.metavivor.org/
CIF Spotlight Award: Scott Adsit
The very talented, very funny and many awards winning Scott Adsit performed in the first ever Chicago Improv Festival 20 years ago. He’s performed at CIF several other times over the years, as he’s been a great friend to the festival, which is why we’re giving him the CIF 2017 Spotlight Award to thank him for everything.
Scott’s performing 3 times in this year’s CIF (Thursday10:30 in Messing with a Friend @ Annoyance Theatre; Friday9pm in Mama’s Boy @ Stage 773; and Saturday10pm in Adsit & Dratch @ Stage 773) and he’s teaching a workshop too (Saturday12pm-3pm @ Stage 773). Scott Adsit’s the best.
CIF Ensemble of the Year Award: 3Peat
Every couple of years Chicago has a really great improv ensemble who’s excellence goes on for years. Right now that ensemble is 3Peat. Some of their original company members left for TV work in LA and NY where they’ve been making their mark there. In turn, the other company members keep 3Peat‘s work consistently awesome as they’re making their mark in Chicago theatre.
3Peat is one of those legacy improv ensembles that years from now people will look back at and say look at all that amazing talent playing on the same team. Which is why we’re giving 3Peat Chicago Improv Festival‘s Ensemble of the Year Award. 3Peat (playing with Lisa BeasleyShantira JacksonMartin MorrowNnamdi Ngwe, Alison Ringhand, and Patrick Rowland) is performing on CIF’s opening night, Monday9pm @ Stage 773. Come see them and see excellence.
CIF Builder’s Award: Becky Caldwell, Don Hall, Zach Ward
Becky, Don, and Zach were all CIF Associate Producers who worked with and on CIF for several years. CIF hit some of its peaks and developed some of its world wide reputation because of the fine work from these three unique individuals all of whom are wonderful producers. Sometimes the talent doesn’t just happen on-stage but is also off-stage helping make the stage happen.
